Databases in Focus: ERIC (via the ProQuest interface)
The UniSA Library Databases in Focus series showcases features of databases available to UniSA students and staff. These concise one-hour workshops provide the opportunity to explore what these powerful literature search tools can offer for study, teaching, and research.
ERIC
The Education Resources Information Center (ERIC) database is produced by the Institute of Education Sciences, 'the statistics, research, and evaluation arm of the U.S. Department of Education' and contains records for mainly English-language material from the 1960s to today.
This key database for locating education-related literature is available via the ProQuest interface, and can be searched separately or in combination with many other key databases available via ProQuest at UniSA. ERIC is a key database for systematic and scoping reviews with an education aspect.
Attend this session to:
- discover why and when to use ERIC (ProQuest)
- practice basic searching
- explore ERIC limits (search refinement options)
- learn key features of the contemporary ProQuest platform
- learn about advanced search options, such as:
- how to use the ERIC thesaurus (Subject Headings)
- combining and editing searches using the search history
- learn a few of the key approaches and requirements when using ERIC for systematic searching as part of a reportable, comprehensive search strategy.
It is recommended where possible to have access to two screens during this session.
